"The peaceful revolution of the fall of 1989"
Recollections
Invited by the German Historical Institute Washington D.C. the Federal Commissioner Marianne Birthler travelled to the USA at the beginning of the month. At the annual German Unification Symposium she presented a speech on “The peaceful revolution in the fall of 1989”. With her, at times, very personal speech, she followed the tradition of Hertie Lecture, which in the past were held by dessenters of the German Democratic Republic such as Jens Reich and Bärbel Bohley as well as Joachim Gauck, the former Federal Commissioner. |
